Keeping Promises: A Technology Action Plan for South Carolina’s Promise Zone

Town of Hilton Head Island Receives Connected Certification

Tuesday, December 16 marked the day Connect South Carolina recognized and celebrated the Town of Hilton Head Island as the fourth Certified Connected Community in the state, and the 35th Connected community in the country! The community’s certification celebration was held in the council chambers of the Town of Hilton Head Island with nearly 40 attendees, including the mayor, town and county council members, members of the Information Technology Task Force, and local, regional, and state broadband and technology stakeholders. Abbeville Becomes 2nd Connected Community

On October 9, at a private event at West Carolina Tel in Abbeville with more than 20 people in attendance, Connect South Carolina’s Jim Stritzinger and Leslie Callison announced Abbeville as a certified Connect South Carolina Connected community and presented the Abbeville County Economic Development team with an official Connected trophy and certificates. South Carolina Providers Submit Expressions of Interest in FCC Rural Broadband Experiment Program

A variety of providers in South Carolina have filed Expressions of Interest for the FCC’s Rural Broadband Experiment program including small rural ILECs, CLECs, Fixed Wireless providers, DSL providers, and even a county government group. Last January, the FCC voted to create the Rural Broadband Experiment program that it hopes will help shape and adjust its Connect America Fund (CAF) broadband subsidy program.
