Are Businesses in Denial About Social Media?

Some researchers are coming to the conclusion that American businesses are in a state of denial when it comes to social media. The Pew Research Center has found that two-thirds of online adults (66%) use social media platforms while the mindset in some corporate boardrooms seems to suggest a belief that the need for a social media presence is a bit overhyped.

Rob Ployhart is the Bank of America Professor of Business Administration in the University of South Carolina’s Moore School. In a recent Times and Democrat article he spoke on this issue:

Darla Moore School of Business researcher Rob Ployhart is conducting some of the first studies on social media and its use as a business strategy.

“In today’s world, we are all interconnected. Companies that are thinking about this proactively are the ones that are probably going to have an advantage in leveraging this technology,” Ployhart says.
