A group working to bring high-speed Internet to rural parts of Spartanburg County is looking at locations where mobile hot spots can be established for students to use after school.

Connect South Carolina presented several recommendations to county leaders Thursday on how to expand broadband service. During the event at AFL corporate headquarters in Duncan, the county also received certification as a Connected Community. The program helps communities pinpoint areas where high-speed Internet is lacking and develop a plan to address the issue.

Connect South Carolina conducted an eight-month study to examine the county's strengths and weaknesses in providing broadband service. The study produced a technology action plan for the county to follow.

"This is your idea to shape it the way you want," Connect South Carolina Executive Director Jim Stritzinger said.
